During 2024 Honiton Carers will enjoy their Art & Craft sessions at The Methodist Church on the 4th Wednesday of each month. We are looking forward to working with various tutors during the year.

Wednesday 10th January 2024, Jewellery with Vanessa Brown
A wonderful first craft session of the year making bead bracelets. Vanessa supplied little bags with beads in various sizes and colours from which we chose what we wanted to use. She showed us how to string them together and how to tie each end. She also provided a small magnet to make it easier for our not so nimble fingers to open and close the bracelet. Lovely, totally absorbing session, much enjoyed by all.
Wednesday 24th January 2024, Pastels with Dee Masters
This was Dee’s first visit to our group, but she will be visiting every other month throughout 2024, doing lots of different Crafts with us. We are really looking forward to her sessions.
Today we enjoyed pastels which was completely new to most of us. She taught us about the pastels themselves and about the various types or cards we could use. She gave us a small postcard with a colourful landscape and asked us to copy it on one of the cards, but to interpret it in our own way. My goodness that is exactly what we all did. So many different but equally lovely pictures emerged by the end of the two hour session. We have some serious talents in our group.
Wednesday 28th February 2024, Drawing with wool with Hazel Austin
Honiton Carers met at the Methodist Church on Wednesday 28th February for their monthly Art & Craft session. The tutor this time was Hazel Austin who taught us how to ”Draw with Wool” something completely different to anything we have tried before. Hazel brought some templates with her which we covered by gluing our chosen colours of wool on to them. No restrictions, we all just let our Imagination flow. It was rather sticky to say the least, but we all had so much fun doing it and the session was much enjoyed by all.
Ruth French, Co-op Members Pioneer for Honiton & Sidmouth also visited. She brought some heart shaped templates with her, for us to complete at home for the upcoming International Women’s Day which falls on 8th March this year. The Co-op is running a competition and the idea is to think of a woman who inspires you and then make a connection on the heart, it can be a drawing, a photo, a poem, or a quote, whatever comes to mind, anything will do as long as it refers to whoever inspires you one way or another.
The winning entry receives a prize of £200 for their group, for us that would pay for a “Walk & Chat” outing by coach, which we all love.
Wednesday 27th March 2024, Collage Placements with Dee Masters
The Art & Craft session was this month attended by 28 carers who all made some wonderful examples of Collage Placements. Guided by Dee Masters we cut out from various magazines and formed an individual theme for our picture. Some brilliant results for sure. The session was much enjoyed by all.
The Lions Easter Egg draw was won by Mary Williams, ticket drawn by Dee Masters.
Beautiful floral table decorations made by Barbara East and refreshments served in the small room by Stella Ford and Pat Dunlop. Brilliant afternoon all together.
Wednesday 24th April 2024, Dream catchers with Hazel Austin
Lovely session with Hazel in April, again doing something completely different. We all had great fun making dream catchers and the end results were incredible. Not very often I display mine, but I was really pleased with it as were al the other carers. Lovely tuition and great fun.
Wednesday 22nd May 2024, Weaving with Dee Masters
The Art & Craft for May was weaving with Dee Masters. We had a choice today whether we made a coaster of a hanging picture. Completely different to anything we have tried before, interesting, required total concentration but was still fun today. Lovely results as usual and for the ones who managed to finish a huge achievement. The rest took wool home with them and will hopefully finish it off at home. Great afternoon with excellent attendance.
Wednesday 26th June, 2D flowers with Hazel Austin
Another brilliant Art & Craft session with Hazel Austin, making little woolly 2D flower pots. Hazel makes everything so much fun and the carers love her coming. We had a brilliant turn out with 36 carers attending also visits from our lovely vicar Tracey Voysey and ex-cub leader Helen Turner, great to have them both with us. It was the hottest day of the year so the tea ladies had a hard time serving the refreshments and clearing up afterwards in the stifling kitchen, but as always with a smile on their faces.

Wednesday 10th July, Egg Shells Mosaics Photo Frames with Dee Masters
Lovely Art & Craft session today with Dee Masters making photo frames with egg shells mosaic. Extremely fiddly so I was impressed and rather surprised at the fabulous results we had. Well done all.

Wednesday 28th August, Paper flowers and Vase, with Hazel Austin
Honiton Carers enjoyed a brilliant Art & Craft session on Wednesday 28th August at the Methodist Church with tutor Hazel Austin. Hazel talked us through how to make a vase with pretty flowers standing in a window and all of it made from Pipe cleaners, paper cups and cardboard. The results were absolutely stunning. We had a large turnout and everyone thoroughly enjoyed the session.
It was a busy session today, as we also had a visit from a couple of nurses Gill & Karen from the RD&U Hospital offering the carers a Free NHS Health Check. The uptake was great and very much appreciated. A Health Check can help you reduce the risks of Heart Disease, Diabetes, Kidney Disease, Stroke or Dementia and make sure you stay Healthy.
The refreshment were today served by Stella Ford and Lorraine Bracey and the table flower decorations were made by Barbara East. Lisa Lloyd did the raffle and Carole Sexton assisted with serving the refreshments. We would like to thank our Volunteers for their ongoing support, which is always much appreciated.
Wednesday 25th September 2024, Trees & Leaves with Hazel Austin
We had another lovely afternoon with Hazel Austin at the Methodist Church today making little trees and flowers. Really cute. So simple yet so challenging for the ones of us who struggle with our hands and fingers.
Superb results though as you will see from the photos here. Hazel is full of good ideas and will thankfully be with us next year too. Next year she will have a completely free hand as to what she decides to do at each session. .
Wednesday 23rd October 2024, Tissue Paper Glass Lanterns with Dee Masters
Another brilliant art & craft session with Dee Masters making Tissue Paper Glass Lanterns. They turned out just wonderful and the cutting and gluing was much enjoyed by everyone. Lovely idea and one to take home to do with the grandchildren. Fabulous turn out too. We are all looking forward to next month when we will be making Christmas Wreaths.
Wednesday 27th November, 2024, Wreath making with Sue Holland and Martin Staniforth
Lovely afternoon wreath making at The Methodist Church with Sue Holland, Martin Staniforth and their two little helpers Hazel Austin and Shreya. The results were amazing thanks to Sue & Martin’s clear instructions and helping hands. The afternoon was thoroughly enjoyed by everyone. Sue & Martin donated their time for both the preparation and the actual session, which was very much appreciated. We presented them with a bottle each to enjoy during the Festive Season. Thank you also to our tea ladies who served the lovely refreshments and cleared up afterwards.
