Lovely afternoon at the Methodist Church making adorable mini hats, so simple but very enjoyable with some fabulous results achieved by all our carers.

We also had a visit from our new Admiral Nurse Jo Samuel who has taken over from her pre-successor Fay Valentine who left a few months ago. It is great to have jo in position now to support the carers during their challenging times.

We enjoyed another brilliant Craft session today at the Methodist Church with Hazel Austin. This time we made some very unusual flowers from rolled paper in various colours giving an incredible lovely effect. Hazel was assisted by Shreya who both show an amazing patience with us all.

We also had a visit from Jan from Living Option who gave a presentation about Sight and Hearing Loss. Jan brought lots of different equipment to demonstrate and taught us so very much about what is possible even with a hidden disability.

In addition we had a visit from 2 lovely ladies from the NHS Outreach department doing Health & Wellbeing checks. A very high percentage of us had our blood pressure taken and advice given where necessary. A really busy session, so beneficial to everyone and very enjoyable too. Thank you all for supporting Honiton Carers.

Lovely afternoon making Easter Cards today. Fabulous turnout and some wonderful results. The carers never cease to amaze me, these cards were really challenging to make and yet everyone succeeded. I totally admire their persistence and willingness to have a go. I also love the way everyone support each other throughout the activity.

Wednesday 23rd April 2025

We have started to prepare for charter day, which falls on 19th July. Honiton Carers are the chosen Charity of the year so have to put on a good show on our stand. During this month Craft session with Hazel Austin we cut out and painted pieces of cardboard in to the shapes of football shirts, shorts, balls, bats and anything else connected with sports. This will be made in to bunting which will be strung around the Gazebo. We will also have some real sports equipment decorating the stand but obviously have to be mindful of space.

It was a lovely session much enjoyed by all. It is a brilliant idea to get everyone involved in Charter day as some of the carers will probably not be able to attend at all, but will still feel part of the exciting day. We are hoping a lot of the carers will do an hour slot or more as we need plenty of manpower. We have 2 more craft session before the actual day so hopefully we will manage to do lots more. We did exceptional well yesterday, much better than expected thanks to Hazel being so well prepared.

Pictures show everyone stuck in cutting and painting and the last one confirms the incredible end result.

Lovely afternoon with Hazel Austin making mini bowler hats for Charter day. We had a choice today as we could also make more buntings, attach the buntings to the strip or put glitter on the various shapes Hazel had prepared for us. There was also some hearts we could cover in pretty stickers, all for Charter Day and in particular the lucky dip. The results were incredible but they were actually harder to make than one initially thought. Great fun though and much enjoyed by everyone. Next month is the last chance to make items for Charter Day.

Wednesday 25th June 2025

Today we finished off all the wonderful items we have made for Charter Day, which takes place on 19th July, so much fun. We completed the buntings, the head bands, little hats with hangers, hearts and so much more. All the carers have worked so hard together to make this day a success all around and we have had great fun doing it. We can’t wait for Charter day now. Ready and rearing to go as they say.

Lovely Craft session today with Hazel Austin at The Methodist Church painting on wooden plaques whatever we fancied. Everyone did something different and what a brilliant result we had.

Also good to have Katie Taylor from Wellmoor with us helping the carers to sort the IT issues and making 1to1 IT appointments in their homes too. Much appreciated.

We finished off with the usual gorgeous refreshments and a well stocked Raffle. The table decorations were made and donated by Peter’s daughter Sue who had painted the containers which were actually yogurt pots, just beautiful.

Wednesday 24th September 2025

What a wonderful afternoon that was. Brilliant turn out, we believe it might be a record number for our craft sessions at the Methodist Church. So nice to see so many carers attending.

Hazel Austin took the session as usual but today we painted dried leaves which was a first and really enjoyable to do. Hazel had been drying and pressing the leaves since last autumn knowing we would be using them this autumn. Most carers took their craft work home but Hazel used the left over leaves to make a beautiful wreath with them. Wonderful autumn colours.

Thank you to all our volunteers today, for doing the refreshments, the raffle and for making another sausage dog in such pretty material, it will be ready for the draw when we meet at Combe on Wednesday 1st October.

Thank you also to Sue for doing the lovely floral table decorations today and for staying on and helping Hazel with the session and likewise to Evelyn, for helping out too. Last but not least thank you for all the wonderful donated raffle prizes.

Nice to have Hannah and Paula visiting telling us about their creative writing idea, fingers crossed they will be off to a good start and be successful with their great idea.

Another lovely craft session with Hazel Austin today making small Xmas tree wreaths decorations some with photos. These will be used for our Xmas tree Festival at St.Paul’s early December, which we are much looking forward to not having had one for a few years.
Good to celebrate Stella Ford on her actual birthday with a delicious cake made by Julie, which went down extremely well.

We will be making more Xmas decorations at our next craft session on 26th November

Wednesday 26th November 2025

At today’s craft session we made little angels for our Christmas Tree we are displaying at St. Paul’s Church Christmas Tree Festival commencing Thursday 4th December and finishing Sunday 7th December. We had a fabulous time being instructed by Hazel and her able assistant Sue Dent, who also made the floral table decorations today. The results were amazing. Lovely refreshments followed as well as the compulsory raffle. A great time was had by all. We are back at the Methodist Church next week for another craft session, this time doing Wreath Making with Martin & Sue Holland.

Annual Wreath Making

Lovely wreath making session today with Sue Holland & Martin Staniforth. What a talented bunch our carers are. Incredible results and much fun too with everyone supporting each other holding the wreath and tying the twine around the little individual bouquets before fastening this on the wreath with wire. Others would tie the greenery straight on to the wreath, but both methods producing amazing results.

The session finished off with some lovely refreshments served by Tia Fowler and Pat Dunlop, followed by the compulsory raffle.
