Carers Cancer Awareness & Health & Wellbeing Day at The Beehive

Wednesday 2nd April 2025

What a wonderful turnout at the Beehive for our Carers Cancer Awareness & Wellbeing Day, which was organised in conjunction with Wellmoor who had managed to obtain a Grant for this purpose. Ottery Help Scheme also put two similar events on. We had 2 cancer speakers one from the NHS speaking about Breast cancer and the other from Mind talking about various other cancers and what you can do to look after yourself endeavouring to avoid one of the many cancers.

We had 11 stallholders from various organisations such as LED with their ‘in body machine’, ECO, The Filo Project, Living Options, Honiton Social Prescriber, Living Memories, Pension Credit Department, RD&U Outreach doing health checks and Spring Covid Vaccinations, Parental Minds and the NHS Cancer nurse who gave the brilliant presentation about breast cancer. Every one attended with a view to supporting all the unpaid carers in our community who often do not reach out for support. This event proved to be of great benefit to the carers attending and a lot of networking was going on too.

Thank you also to all our wonderful volunteers who worked throughout the afternoon, serving refreshments, checking in attendants, making sure everyone knew what was available, which included free massages with Willa, who was fully booked before she even started and seated dancing with Rosie which was really popular too and created a lot of laughter and fun.

Thank you also for all the wonderful home-baked cake donations which beat having a Rich Tea biscuit and was very much appreciated.

The lovely Darts Farm hamper donated by Honiton Carers was won by volunteer Pat Dunlop in the free draw and the beautiful floral arrangements made by Stella Ford were won by 6 lucky attendants, who were all thrilled.
