“Walk a Mile with a Smile”

Honiton Carers have been participating in Carers week by “Walking a Mile with a Smile” at Knighthayes on Tuesday 6th June.

Paula Clarke – National Trust Volunteering & Community Manager – Dartmoor – commented “We’ve been working in partnership with Devon Carers for over three years, providing carers with some well-deserved time out in beautiful surroundings and ensuring our staff
and volunteers access carer awareness training. Castle Drogo has also become a Carer Friendly Devon Supporter, which values carers visiting the property and estate, as well as supporting staff and volunteers who are carers. We are very pleased that many of our venues are taking part in Carers Week this year and are offering free entry for carers on our special event days.

Devon Carers #milewithasmile campaign returned this year with even more carers participating. Devon Carers have asked everyone to roll, stroll or jog a mile to contribute to their aim of 350 miles, the total perimeter of Devon. With carers taking photos of themselves smiling on their mile and sharing them on social media by tagging #milewithasmile, we hope to raise awareness of carers throughout Devon .

Saturday 10th June, Carers Awareness day at the Co-op

Honiton Carers spent Saturday 10th June at Honiton Co-op bringing awareness to unpaid carers. Being one of the Co-ops chosen 3 causes, we visit quarterly to encourage the Co-op customers to sign up for a Co-op card which benefits our group throughout the whole year. We get 2p in the pound on all branded goods the customer with a Co-op card purchases. It is amazing how it all adds up in the year.

In addition we signed unpaid carers up to Honiton Carers for ongoing support and referred some carers to Devon Carers for support beyond what Honiton Carers are able to offer. We had a M&S hamper raffle which was donated by Emma Healey from”Way to Fitness” and won by Lyn on number 35. She was needless to say thrilled.

Our next awareness session at the Co-op is on Friday 8th September followed by 24th November (Carers Right day)
