Honiton Carers all enjoyed a postponed Christmas Lunch at The Bowd Inn on Wednesday 21st February 2024. We had decided at the AGM in the summer of 2023 that we would postpone the celebrations as there was so much going on for everyone in December.

It was a brilliant decision as everyone had something to look forward to during the dull months of January & February. The Christmas lunch menu included 3 different starters, a lovely Carvery with 3 meats including Turkey and an endless amounts of vegetables, Nut Roast or fish Risotto. This was followed by an wonderful array of desserts including Christmas Pudding, coffee and chocolates.

40 members of local The Rock Choir led by Carmel Carey entertained us after the meal and in their break we had our popular raffle consisting of 3 hampers one of which was donated by the generous proprietors of The Bowd Inn Darren and Carole Yates who not only gave us a brilliant price for the meal but also donated all the soft drinks consumed during the lunch. Very much appreciated of course.

Stamp/Crudge coaches drove us safely to Sidmouth and back.

The Christmas meal was partly covered by a grant from Honiton Town Council and by the carers selling Rotary Raffle tickets during the summer and finally by the carers donating items, buying and selling raffle tickets for the other 2 hampers. First prize was a jigsaw a months for the whole year and a puzzle sorter which was all donated by Susan Hayes, daughter of one of our now ex-carers.
