Christmas Tea Party

Wednesday 11th December 2024

Our tea party went with a bang. We started off with lovely non alcoholic home made Mulled Wine with lots of spices, which went down a treat, had various snacks on the tables like chocolates, Dips & bread sticks, crisps and Ritz to nibble during our entertainment.

Cameron Lemmer entertained us for an hour singing his most popular tunes and a lot of Christmas songs and Carols. The carers were rocking , singing, clapping and having a wonderful time.

We served the high tea at 3.15pm and they never stopped eating for at least 45 minutes. There was everything you can imagine on the tables for the carers to enjoy and they certainly did. Various cheeses with more dips, chicken satays, savoury balls, pork pies, cheese & bacon bites, scotch eggs, savoury eggs, crudités, Scones with cream & jam, fruit loaves, fruit cake, stollen, mince pies, and the usual Greggs biscuits, ginger men and huge jammy dodgers. All this and of course the compulsory cups of tea to go with it.

The tables looked wonderful with Christmas table cloths and serviettes and Stella Ford’s fabulous Christmas table decorations, which everyone wanted to win. She really had excellent herself.

Dawn from Honiton Council had as usual donated a Christmas hamper but this year it was bigger & better than ever. I had also made a hamper from all the items the carers had donated throughout November & December. My hamper was won by Carole Sexton and Dawns hamper was won by Daggi Weaver who was absolutely thrilled to bits. The 6 table decorations Stella made were won by Carol Ballm, Ruth Robinson, Janice Anson, Christine Goodwill, Lorraine Bracey & Laura Barnden. All 6 winners were absolutely delighted.

The Christmas party was made possible by a very generous grant from the McCarthy Stone Foundation, with an aim of giving the carers a day to remember throughout the year. I am absolutely sure we achieved that.
