This month our usual craft session with Hazel Austin was replaced with a sing a long with Hazel and her partner Mick. Hazel has the most beautiful voice and kindly offered to share it with us accompanied by Mick who harmonised her fabulously on his guitar. We enjoyed some lovely music from 60s right through to the new century and they carers were more than happy singing along to the tunes they grew up with. A great session definitely to be repeated later in the year.

A lovely craft session with Hazel Austin and Sue Griffin making Easter Eggs today. What a brilliant result with every single one being so very different but don’t they look good all together? Wonderful session thoroughly enjoyed by everyone.

Thank you to our lovely volunteers for helping us make the session such a success and a special thank you to Sue Griffin for making the lovely floral table decorations in the Easter theme of the day.

Next month we start working on the Charter day theme which this year is ‘story telling’ our story is going to be about Alice in wonderland as we feel her tea party is very similar to our group sessions when we always have lots of fun and masses of tea and cake. Can’t wait to see what Hazel & Sue come up with for us to make.

Wednesday 22nd April 2026

Exciting craft session at Honiton Carers with tutor Hazel Austin today making preparations for Charter Day. The theme this year is story telling, and we hope to be telling a story the community will recognise. Today was the first session with two more to go. I think we may have to do some homework too to be ready in time. Nothing like a bit of crafting and peer support to take your mind off your caring duties.

Thank you to all our volunteers for helping out as without them we could not run the group, however we were low on the ground today so are actively seeking more volunteers and indeed trustees to help us facilitate the group and make us even more resilient. Thank you in particular to Sue Griffin for making and donating the beautiful floral table decorations.

Fabulous craft session today with Hazel Austin making Alice in Wonderful stencils for a banner for Charter Day on 18th July. We are very much looking forward to seeing the end result and to learn how the public react to OUR story. The theme of the day is story telling and our story is Carers in Winderland, instead of Alice in Wonderland. Next month is our last session before Charter day, when everything will be put together.

Today was an extremely hot day, but we managed to keep cool by dropping the blinds, opening all the windows and having lots of iced cold drinks available. We were all just fine and had a very enjoyable afternoon together.

Lovely afternoon with Hazel & Sue finishing off all the crafting for our story telling on Charter Day on 18th July. “Carers in Winderland” is starting to look really good, we did Rose garlands today and cards with hearts for the Queen of Hearts dress. We are becoming really excited about Charter day and just hope everyone will recognise our Story telling and what the connection is between ‘Alice in Wonderland and ‘Carers in Winderland’.

Wednesday 26th August 2026

Lovely decoupage craft session today with Hazel Austin making pictures which had to include a bird. Brilliant results with every attendant participating, which is what these sessions are all about. Every picture is so inspirational and totally different, just lovely.

Thank you to Sue Griffin for the beautiful floral table arrangements and to all our volunteers for all their help today.

Lovely craft session with Hazel this afternoon at the Methodist Church. We made little flags to hang in our trees sending Love, Happiness & Peace around the world. These flags are colourful symbols of global harmony that can create a serene, beautiful scene when hung outdoors or near branches. We all agreed we could not get enough of that and definitely needed some more as things are at the moment.

Next week the carers group is off to Topsham for our monthly Walk & Chat around the Goats Walk finishing off with tea and cake at the Watermeadow grange. We are very much looking forward to the day.
