Honiton Carers had a great time at Gittisham Fete on Saturday 31st August. Organised by Alex from the Smithy and a fabulous job he did too. Lots of assorted stalls with Honey, Jewellery, Jams & Chutneys, Woodwork, Plants & Flowers, in fact everything. For entertainment there was the Town Band, a Duck Race, Bouncy castle, Morris dancing, Vintage cars and lots of fun & games for both the children and adults.. It was fabulously well attended, a sunny warm day and we all had a brilliant time. We took close on £ 300 selling Rotary Raffle tickets, various lovely donated items plus our always popular bottle stall, this will enable us to carry on supporting unpaid carers and bringing awareness to the community.
Thank you to our own volunteers who worked really hard. Photo below is Stella Ford, Committee Member, Lorraine Bracey volunteer and Winnie Cameron Chair, Carole Ballm in the background is serving a customer.

Sadly the weather was not kind to us this year. It drizzled from the moment we arrived at 11am until we left at 5pm, with heavy showers in between too. Everything was wet as even though the Gazebo is definitely water proof, the water runs down the walls and forms pools on the ground which then seep in under the Gazebo walls and makes everything on the ground soaking wet. Despite the rain we had a reasonably good day though. Our volunteers kept smiling all day long, cheering up our customers with jokes and laughter. Some people came in for a chat, others for shelter, but they all ended up supporting our various activities. We had a very successful Tombola, a separate boys and girls lucky dip, we named the dog and sold Rotary Raffle tickets as usual. We took close on £200, 2/3rd of what we took last year, which was definitely to be expected with the limited footfall due to the weather.
The Village hall was packed throughout the afternoon with people having coffee and cake which was never ending. The Pig had made a tremendous amount of scones and cakes for the fete as had a lot of people living in the village. Once the fete had finished I was able to buy 2 whole cakes (Apple and gluten free chocolate), 18 large scones, 2 jars of Strawberry jam and a large box of clotted cream. I offered £20 she declined and said £2, we settled for £5 which was an absolute bargain and incredibly generous of them to support our group like that. We do however give them a lot of business during the year, so you reap what you sow as they say.
