Wednesday 25th February
Today was all about our carers.
Tracy Duckmanton, Patient Experience Manager visited us to present AccessAble as well as the Carers, Cared for & Family Strategy. It was an extended session as there was a lot to present and indeed a lot to take in for the carers. It is extremely impressive work Tracy and her department are doing over the coming 5 years, however we sincerely hope they achieve everything they are proposing. Our carers certainly appeared to think they were on the right path. If you have a story you would like to share or some feed back you would like to forward both positive and constructive negative, please scan the photo below and get in touch directly. Tracy and her department would love to hear from you.

What a brilliant presentation we had today by Lucie from the NHS Oral Health Department, clear, interesting and extremely informative. Really made us all think about how we could look after our teeth and mouth better. It was a long presentation with our refreshment break half way, but Lucie totally kept us engaged through the whole time.
Thank you to Lorraine and Carole for doing the refreshments today, to Barbara for doing the lovely table arrangements, to Lorraine and Stella for doing the raffles and to all our table hostesses. Much appreciated, we could not run the sessions without you all.

Lovely afternoon spent with Helen Burridge and Walter her hearing dog at the Methodist Church today. What a wonderful bond they two of them have. Helen told us all about hearing dogs in general, how they are trained as well as the cost of providing these clever dogs.
Helen also gave us a bit of her own life history which was extremely touching. Thank you to Helen for joining us today all the way from Tavistock.
Also thank you to all the volunteers who make it possible to run the group every week. Thank you in particular to Stella Ford for the gorgeous floral table decorations which everyone wish to win in the compulsory raffle.

What a lovely afternoon, what an incredible turn out.
Jo did a brilliant CPR session, he manages to make it a different training session every time he visits. He is so very interesting, a ball of energy for the solid hour he speaks and makes the session so very informative and thoughts provoking. I think we all learnt something today. It is a pity we tend to forget what we learn if we do not use it regularly, but hopefully it would come back to us in an emergency. Fingers crossed we will not experience one.
Thank you Miriam for the fabulous cakes and scones today, I can truly confirm the cakes were scrumptious as I had a taste of them both, I know the scones were too as they all disappeared pretty sharply. LOL
Thank you to Lyn and Judith for doing the kitchen much appreciated and to Pat for doing the Raffle. Thank you to you all for participating in everything we do and also for the raffle contributions.
Jo’s First Aid session was courtesy of Devon Carers who we would like to thank very much.

Well that was a fun afternoon at The Methodist Church today. Wiltshire Foods sadly could not make the promised presentation today but instead sent us 30 meals. We had fun cooking them and then sharing them amongst the 35 carers who attended.
We naturally still had our usual cuppa & cake afterwards and finished off with our usual well stocked raffle.
We also had a last minute visit from PCSO Darren England and Jess who has recently joint him, giving a brief presentation about the new much improved trackers.
Thank you to all our volunteers who worked so hard today, especially Judith and Lyn in the kitchen what would we do without them!!
Also thank you to Stella Ford for the wonderful floral table arrangements.

Great fun afternoon at the Methodist Church with the Carers doing ChiChi-fit with Claire Jenkins despite the hot weather. We managed with lots of iced water and ice lollies and loved the session despite the extreme temperature. Note to oneself. Do not book exercise sessions in the summer months, this could be our future summers. We had an excellent turn out and all had a good laugh. A huge thank you to our volunteers who had extra washing up and worked so hard in a hot kitchen, we could not do this without you all. Also a big thank you to Barbara East for the wonderfully sunny table arrangements. so delightful.![]()

What a lovely summer party we had today. Entertained by Pacey Shepherd on the organ, who played in aid of Sidmouth Hospice at Home. What a talented young man, we can highly recommend him. Self taught and plays without music, it is an incredible experience to listen to and to see Pacey. What a talent.
A wonderful cream tea and cakes curtesy of Mary Bolshaw, followed only the best of course for our lovely carers. The session was thoroughly enjoyed by all and partly funded by an EDDC community grant.
Thank you to all our wonderful volunteers who worked their socks off today, we could never do all this without you.![]()

Lovely afternoon being entertained by Emily Miller on her Banjo and Ukulele. Great variety of music we could sing along to and much enjoyed by all despite the incredible heat, which appears to be zapping the energy out of everyone. Sadly no dancing today. 30+ degrees, incredible and even hotter tomorrow.
Beautiful Floral table decorations made and donated by Stella Ford, a huge thank you to all our volunteers who did well getting the refreshments served and cleared away despite this heat.
Finished off with a well stocked raffle as usual, lovely afternoon yet again.
