THE BYES AT SIDMOUTH

Our first “Walk & Chat” of the year took us along the lovely Byes from Livonia Road Sidmouth to the sea front. 22 carers attended and only 4 sadly had to stay on the coach and go directly to Mocha due to mobility issues.

The weather was perfect for us sunny with a little breeze, we were so very lucky as the weekend prior had been torrential rain and even yesterday we had heavy showers. Not a drop today. We thoroughly enjoyed our afternoon, a beautiful walk and lovely refreshments and service at Mocha on the sea front. We already look forward to our next “Walk & Chat” to Seaton on the Tramway on 14th June during Carers Week.

Budleigh ‘Walk & Chat’

What a lovely afternoon ‘Walk & Chat’ we had at Budleigh today Friday 23rd August.

The River Walk is now completed, it has been made into a beautiful circular walk with several viewing points like they have at Seaton Wetlands and an adequate amount of benches all the way around too. We did not do the complete circle today but did get a really good walk in, turned around, came back and walked along the seafront up to the Methodist Church, where we arrived at 3pm, just in time before they called last order. Most of us enjoyed sitting outside in the lovely sunshine enjoying the homemade refreshments. Just gorgeous

Thank you to all our walk leaders who did a lovely first run today.

Seaton Wetlands ‘Walk & Chat‘

To day was probably the warmest day of the year so far, we are definitely enjoying an Indian Summer, how lovely that is after all the rain.

Today we enjoyed a guided walk around the Seaton Wetlands with Penny Evans one of the 7 Wild West guides. She gave a fabulous talk as we walked around the wetlands identifying all the birds small and large and also explained about the man made estuary and how they manage to regulate it with pumps. We enjoyed a bit of pond fishing too and Penny knew every single creature we managed to catch. Such an enjoyable afternoon much appreciated by all the carers who attended. We ended up in their hut with the compulsory cuppa & cake, before we left at 4.15pm for a lovely drive by Stamp Coaches back to Honiton.

Spring Water Farm ‘Walk & Chat‘

Honiton Carers spent a lovely afternoon at Spring Water Farm on the Killerton Estate on Wednesday 30th October. The visit was arranged by Hannah Worthington from the Bats Society and is part of their ‘Connecting People and Landscapes in a Changing Climate’ events. Springwater Farm is one of the 5 farms who do regenerative farming that the organisation works with. Honiton Carers have already visited Gappah Farm previously which is another farm is the group.

The visit was much enjoyed by everyone and included a couple of walks around the estate, an art & craft project, a picnic and finally a Quiz having split in to two teams. The quiz was won by Lisa Lloyd’s team who won a large bag of lovely chocolates, which was promptly shared and consumed by everyone.. We are already looking forward to our next visit to one of the managed farms.

This month’s ‘Walk & Chat ‘ took us to Clarks Village for some serious Christmas shopping. Despite the wet weather in Honiton both on departure and on arriving back in Honiton and the low numbers attending we had a wonderful day with much better weather than expected.

We all spent a lot of money treating ourselves and buying Christmas presents for our loved ones. We enjoyed a lovely lunch at Prezzo and others in a small cosy cafe, all depending on individual choice. We had 5 hours shopping time, which we originally thought would be more than adequate but we could easily have spent another couple of hours there. Time just flies when you are having fun. A great trips with friends much enjoyed by everyone. Our next trip will now be in January.

The last ‘Walk & Chat’ of the year took us to Powderham Castle to see the beautifully illuminated gardens and fabulous it was too. We had a 5pm slot but were 30 minutes late due to an accident on the dual carriage way. Thankfully Sue East had gone ahead independently so keep the office informed as to when we were due to arrive. It all went smoothly checking in once we arrived and we were soon walking around the lovely grounds in smaller groups admiring the fabulous displays. The Castle had been opened up and was beautifully decorated for Christmas both in and out, the Rose Gardens being the best of it all. Absolutely stunning. We were so pleased we persevered with this booking which initially caused us a bit of stress to say the least. We will definitely go back next year either as a group or independently.
